These chapters have never missed a single JEE Main session in five years: Coordinate Geometry (Circles, Parabola, Ellipse/Hyperbola, Straight Lines): 4-5 questions every session. Calculus (Limits, Derivatives, Integration, Definite Integrals, Applications): 5-7 questions — the largest single block. Matrices and Determinants: 2 questions, 100% reliability. Binomial Theorem: appeared in 4 of 4 sessions in both 2024 and 2025 — expect continuation. Sets, Relations, Functions: 1 question per session consistently. Complex Numbers: appeared in 3 of 4 sessions in 2025 — elevated probability for 2026. Permutations and Combinations: 1-2 questions, 80% session appearance rate. Trigonometry (all sub-topics): 2-3 questions across all sessions. Differential Equations: 1-2 questions, consistent. Mathematical Reasoning: 1 question, reliable.

Changing Trends: What to Watch for 2026
Statistics (Mean, Variance, Standard Deviation): appeared in only 2 of 8 sessions in 2024-2025 after being consistent in 2021-2023. Possible return in 2026. Linear Programming: appeared in 1 of 4 sessions in 2025 (reduced from 2 of 4 in 2022-2023). May feature more in January 2026. Conic Sections (Ellipse): ellipse questions reduced in 2025 relative to 2021-2023. Expect normalisation in 2026 with 1-2 dedicated ellipse questions. Quadratic Equations as a standalone topic: has been embedded within other chapters recently rather than tested separately — watch for a standalone quadratic inequality question.
Integer-Type Mathematics Questions
The 5 integer-type Mathematics questions have the following pattern: 2-3 from calculus (integration, applications of derivatives, or differential equations). 1 from 3D geometry or vectors. 1 from algebra (binomial, matrices, or sequences). The integer questions are calibrated to be slightly harder than MCQ questions but are solvable with the same conceptual knowledge — the difference is computational precision and checking. A wrong integer answer gets 0 marks, not negative marks, so attempting all 5 is always correct strategy.
Difficulty Calibration for 2026
JEE Main Mathematics difficulty has been increasing steadily since 2022 in specific areas: integration (more complex substitutions and by-parts combinations), 3D geometry (longer shortest-distance calculations), and probability (Bayes' theorem and conditional probability multi-step problems). For 2026, expect these three areas to continue their elevated difficulty. Offset this by mastering the reliably easier topics (matrices, binomial theorem, sequences) where every question is straightforward formula application.
Preparation Priority
Based on this analysis: spend 40% of your Mathematics time on calculus (guaranteed, highest mark count), 25% on coordinate geometry, 20% on algebra (matrices, binomial, sequences, complex numbers), and 15% on the remaining chapters.
