JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Mathematics Analysis
Mathematics was, as always, the most time-pressured section of JEE Main 2026 Session 2. The paper confirmed the trends of recent years: calculus-heavy, with coordinate geometry providing the second-largest share, and algebra rewarding pattern fluency over computation. Students who had rehearsed a disciplined attempt sequence and practised multi-step calculus problems performed decisively better than equally knowledgeable students who underestimated the time pressure.

Across shifts, mathematics was rated moderate to difficult. The average student attempted 19-21 of 25 questions, with many running out of time on the longer calculus problems. Students who had practised our math section attempt strategy — short algebra first, moderate difficulty next, longest calculus problems last — consistently reported better performance, both in accuracy and in attempted question count.
Calculus: The Dominant Block
Calculus contributed 8-9 questions across limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, and differential equations. Integration questions were the most time-consuming — definite integrals requiring property-based simplification, and indefinite integrals requiring integration by parts or the e^x[f+f'] recognition. Students who knew the integration by parts guide patterns cold handled these in under two minutes each. Application-of-derivatives questions were more accessible, typically involving maxima-minima setups.
Algebra: Sequences, Complex Numbers, and Matrices
Algebra provided 7-8 questions. Sequences and series (AGP and telescoping), complex number locus on the Argand diagram, matrices and determinants (properties and systems of equations), and quadratic equations were all represented. A complex number rotation problem rewarded students who understand multiplication by e^(iπ/2) as a 90° rotation — the geometric thinking from our complex plane guide made it visual and fast.

Coordinate geometry contributed 5-6 questions spanning circles, straight lines, parabola (tangent and normal), and 3D geometry (angle between lines and planes, distance from a point to a plane). The 3D questions were the most formula-direct and the fastest for prepared students — reading off the direction ratios and computing a dot product. A locus problem on the Argand plane and a line-circle intersection appeared across multiple shifts.
Trigonometry and Probability
Trigonometry (equations, properties of triangles, inverse trig) and probability (Bayes' theorem, conditional probability) provided the remaining 3-4 questions. Probability questions were conceptually clear but required careful reading of the sample space conditions. Trigonometric equation questions tested the general solution formulas — specifically, which values within a given interval satisfy the equation. These two short topics are high-value early-attempt candidates because they are quicker than calculus or 3D geometry.
